Lauderdale-by-the Sea is a charming beach village located entirely on a narrow barrier island in Broward County. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east, the Intracoastal Waterway to the west, the city of Fort Lauderdale to the south and the city of Pompano Beach to the north. This extremely walkable town boasts a world-class beach and an annual average temperature of 76 degrees Fahrenheit (24 degrees Celsius).
Lauderdale by the Sea is known as Florida's shore diving capital. It attracts SCUBA divers from all over the world due to a coral reef located just 100 yards offshore. Plus, the wreck of the SS Copenhagen, a 19th century British steamship, sits in just 25 feet of water. In addition to the incredible diving and snorkeling, the fishing is also superb. Anglin's Fishing Pier juts out 876 feet into the ocean, attracting deep-sea anglers and sightseers.
For landlubbers, Anglin's Square boasts a playground, bike racks and whimsical Adirondack chairs, perfect for relaxing on one of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea's many sunny afternoons. The quaint downtown area is also home to one-of-a-kind shops and numerous restaurants. "Music in the Square", a weekly street party, occurs every Friday night. Residents and guests can also choose to hop on the free local "Pelican Hopper" shuttle service for stress-free transport around town.
Lauderdale-by-the-Sea real estate offers something for all tastes. The city is widely known for its mid-century modern (MiMo) architecture. This currently on-trend architectural style is seen in many of the town's boutique hotels and buildings, and they represent perfect examples of "Old Florida". Lauderdale-by-the-Sea condos range from luxury oceanfront high-rises, such as Aquazul and Cristelle, to private and exclusive boutique-style developments, such as Oriana by the Sea and Villas by the Sea.
Lauderdale by the Sea is located just minutes away from Fort Lauderdale. There are no schools right in town, but the city is served by the Broward County Public School system. For snowbirds, Fort Lauderdale International Airport is nearby, as is Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport. Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is also located just 30 miles north of Miami and 33 miles south of Palm Beach.
